In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and AX2012 R3 Project management and accounting intercompany resource scheduling functionality allows your organization maximum flexibility for scheduling human resources for projects across all your legal entities. The Project management and accounting intercompany resource scheduling can be used to “book” the worker with the right amount of availability and competencies to meet the needs for your project.
*Note: information in this blog is based on the assumption that a system administrator has completed the pre-requisite setups for intercompany resource scheduling in the “borrowing” and “lending” legal entities, configured role templates, and setup workers with competencies.
1. In the legal entity that is going to “borrow” workers from the “lending” legal entity, navigate to Project management and accounting>Common>Projects>All projects. Select the project you wish to schedule resources and click ‘Edit’ in the Action pane.
2. On the ‘Project team and scheduling’ fast tab click the ‘Add roles’ button and select the appropriate role template and number of workers you wish to schedule. Remove the ‘Book workers immediately’ indicator if you want to review the worker selections and availability before ‘booking’ a worker to your project. In the example shown below I have a Role template setup for Finance that has the competencies setup to meet the resource needs of my project. Click <OK>.
3. Next click the ‘Book worker’ button displayed once the Role template has been added to open the worker booking form and display all workers that have the competencies that meet the role details as defined in the role template. This will include any workers from other legal entities where intercompany timesheets and resource scheduling has been configured. In the example below the borrowing legal entity is ‘USMF’ and the lending legal entity is ‘demf’. Two workers from ‘demf’ meet the requirements for the Finance role and are displayed in the ‘Worker booking’ form.
4. As you can see from the example shown, workers from another legal entity can be selected and booked for your project.
Next time, find out how our intercompany resource can use intercompany project timesheets to book their time against a project in another legal entity.
