Microsoft Dynamics AX Exploring Quality Orders (Part 2) – Quantitative Tests

This entry is the next step in the introduction series of Quality management controls (Click Here for Part 1 or here for Part 3). No matter what products you deal with, every customer, in any industry, is seeking the best quality product they can find. Dynamics AX has a tool that can help ensure the highest quality is going to your customer by performing and tracking Quality Orders.

In this blog we are going to review one of the test options within a Quality Order, the quantitative test. A quantitative test uses specific requirements for tolerance and unit measurements on products. You would use this type of test to ensure proper acidity in food, check that manufactured parts were built correctly to specifications, or anything needing a quality measurement. By setting up your tests and test instruments, you can then move onto utilizing quality orders.

Using a quality order will allow you to perform these tests on all products, a certain percentage of product, random sampling, or every 10th product (or any ratio you establish). Users performing the quality order will know with a quick view what test they should be performing, what instrument to use and the acceptable results.

Creating Quantitative Tests To get started, navigate to Inventory Management -> Area page -> Setup -> Quality Control-> Tests

  • To create a new Test, select New in the Menu Bar and a new line item will appear

  • Enter the name of your Test and Description

  • Select your Type. This is a drop down menu – the options are:

  • Fraction – test results to be reported with decimal values

  • Integer – test results to be reported in whole/rounded numbers

  • Option – should not be used for quantitative tests

  • Select a Test Instrument, if one is required and you want to tie it specifically to this test

  • See our blog on setting up Test Instruments

  • Select a Unit. This is the measurement unit that the test will be completed in.

  • If you’ve selected a Test Instrument, the Unit will default into

  • Should a Test Type need to be changed, select the Functions Button in the Menu Bar. Then select Change Quality Test Type.

  • A new form will open where you can select a New Type and/or Unit.

*Note: This cannot be changed after you assign the test to a Test Group
