Microsoft Dynamics AX Exploring Quality Orders (Part 3) – Quality Orders

This entry is the last step in the introduction series of Quality management controls. No matter what products you deal with, every customer, in any industry, is seeking the best quality product they can find. Dynamics AX has a tool that can help ensure the highest quality is going to your customer by performing and tracking Quality Orders.

In this blog we are going to review the quality order process. You will see how establishing the tests and test instruments we discussed in Part 1 and Part 2 of this blog series, are used within the quality order. Employees working in quality will use these orders to track all of their work. They can open an order and see exactly the type of test, required instruments and qualifications for passing the test. Further, the results will be captured, the system will indicate the pass or fail of the test and employees will indicate their validation for sign off and traceability.

Creating Quality Orders

To get started, navigate to Inventory Management -> Periodic -> Quality Management -> Quality Order

  • From this form you can view all quality orders or create a new quality order

  • In addition to creating a new quality order in this form, one can be automatically created if you have configured rules to do so in the Quality associations form

  • To create a new Quality Order, select New in the Menu Bar and a new order form will appear

  • Select your Reference type – this is to associate the item in a quality order with inventory, a sales order, PO, quarantine order, production order or production order routing operation.

  • Despite your selection, a test group is always required. See our blog on Quantitative Test for assistance in setting up tests.

  • After completing the form, select OK to create the order. AX will run a validation process to ensure your entries are correct and the items are available for testing.

  • Note: Items listed for inspection in a quality order are prevented from being issued or consumed.

  • The quality order now appears in the overview area for quality orders. Select the order you want to review in the top section. The bottom section of the form will refresh to contain information pertaining to the order you have selected.

  • Once you have performed the quality test, select the button for Results. A new form will open where you enter your test results and then select the Validate button. Selecting this button will ensure your results (like the quantity) match the requirement for the test. This is a great way to prevent mistakes in the quality process.

  • Close the Results form and in the top section of the quality order form, select the Validate button. A new form will then open where the tester will enter his/her name as having completed and validated the test. Once this is completed, the status of your quality order will change to Pass or Fail from the Open status.
